GEMS
Video by KY NSF EPSCoR on the GEMS Program
Girls in Engineering Math and Science (GEMS) is an after-school program for middle and elementary school students led by Centre College students that I founded in 2014. The program provides positive role models to young women and encourages learning and hands on experience in science, math and engineering.

The club started at one local school, Boyle County Middle school, and quickly expanded to both Toliver Elementary and Bates Middle school the next year. While running the club, I recruited mentors, planned weekly activities, secured funding, and prepared the club to be sustainable when I graduated.

Funding for the club was secured from grants from the Kentucky NSF EPSCoR program and the Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative with additional funds provided by Centre College student government association (SGA). These funds allowed the club to run the club free of charge to make sure participation was open to everyone--providing all supplies, snacks, and field trips for participants free of charge.
